Residents encouraged to obtain groundwater analyses

Some ground water problems have been recently experienced related to excessive mineral content or high total dissolved solids in several water wells in the area. The cause of these anomalies has not been determined and is being investigated through inspection of available groundwater and drilling records (for both water wells and oil and gas wells). Accordingly, the city is recommending that citizens not already in possession of groundwater analyses for their wells should obtain the same. A full panel inorganic analysis can be obtained by mail through the Texas A&M Soil, Water and Testing Laboratory, 345 Heep Center, 2474 TAMU, College Station, Texas 77843-2474, phone 979-845-4816. Cost for a full panel analysis there is $35. This would include the basic inorganic panel, plus metals (including iron), and fluoride. As well as highlighting possible existing probems, these analyses will provide a valuable reference against possible future contamination from injection well and Barnett gas well drilling which is currently expanding in our area.

The city is attempting to compile a database which may be helpful in assessing the ground water quality in the area. Accordingly we would appreciate receiving copies of existing of newly aquired well analyses for the area. These can be mailed directly to the city's P.O. box. Please note the approximate well depth on any analysis submitted.
